Make yourself a hipster stool from an empty key keg and this 18mm birch plywood top. Designed by Toby.

Made right here – premium birch plywood is CNC-machined and finished in Hebden Bridge – the seat fits onto an empty 30-litre KeyKeg and turns it into a lightweight, remarkably durable stool. I used one daily at my previous business for over ten years and made them for new staff members.

Choose your zip-tie colour to make yours as restrained or conspicuous as you like. The keg remains visible, complete with its original labels, scuffs and evidence of previous employment.

Made in small numbers for Short Run Design.

Apparently, despite what I may previously have told people on the internet, these plastic kegs can be recycled. But doing so involves splitting them apart and grinding a rather lovely, strong plastic structure into tiny pieces.

Which seems a bit of a waste when it’s already an excellent stool base.

So we made a seat for it.
